Flipped Classroom: Turning the Page on Traditional Learning, has been a
wonderful learning experience. After some trouble getting started because of a
job relocation, I settled on this topic. My administration has been amazing to
work on during this program and the teachers have really embraced this change
in their instruction. We are in the final stages of the project. All classrooms
pre-AP Algebra I classes have been actively participating in the flipped model
since January (the beginning of the 2nd semester). At first, we had
difficulty with uploading the instructional videos to our campus website. After
some discussion without IT staff and schoolwires, our web hosting service, we
were able to find a fix and upload the videos without causing any delay or disruption
for the students. </div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The main elements
that are remaining are the 2nd collection of data, recommendations and
conclusions, and producing the finished product. I know there is a lot of work
to be done in a limited amount of time, but I am hoping that I can work on
wrapping it up during this week break between courses. The student surveys are already
made and some interviews have already been recorded. I also want to include teacher
surveys, but those have not been developed yet. I want to include more
information of different student learning styles and how that has come into
play during this change. All surveys will be completed by the end of April. I
also need to find a few more accredited sources for some missing key points
that I want to cover. This includes discipline and student comprehension. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><o:p></o:p></b></div>

<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">In my opinion,
one of the most important roles as a teacher is to provide students with a
sense of responsibility. Students need to be responsible for their own learning
and understand that with this responsibility comes keeping track of effort and
achievement. Technology is making it even easier to provide these services to
students. Using tools such as Excel, data collection technology such as Survey
Monkey, and online rubrics, students begin to see the correlation between
effort and achievement. In turn, these programs provide students with the
feedback necessary to create goals and set objectives for future learning. They
practice self-reflection and recognize the importance of self-efficacy. The
most significant thing to remember is that providing students with tangible
rewards may not have the impact that occurs when we truly instill a sense of intrinsic
motivation guaranteed to foster determination and satisfaction. <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

for cooperative learning can really enhance their experience in the classroom.
They are able to understand their unique learning needs and similar or diverse needs
of their peers. Not only is it an academic practice, but provides social
experiences at the same time. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Displaying
concern for every student’s learning and building a community of support within
the classroom walls can do so much for their overall learning and even instill
pride in their work and the successes of others. Students learn to trust one
another and develop interdependence and an understanding that everyone has a
stake in achieving these short or long term goals. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Recommendations for cooperative learning
experiences in the classroom include using a variety of criteria to group
students, use informal, formal, and base groups, keep groups to a manageable size,
and combine cooperative learning with other classroom structures (Pitler,
Hubbell, Kuhn, & Malenoski, 2007). The lessons should also include
motivational context, learner activities, appropriate rules for interaction with
others, and a well-structured knowledge base (Millis, 2006). <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;"><span lang="EN" style="mso-ansi-language: EN;">Setting clear
goals and designing plans to achieve those goals is important to every
classroom and each student’s success. </span>Creating and customizing lesson
plans using the Universal Design for Learning, or UDL, builder is a great way
to include every learner and every learning style. </span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;"><span lang="EN" style="mso-ansi-language: EN;">It is important
to realize that a UDL lesson plan is not meant for use as an everyday lesson plan
because it </span>addresses the activities, assessments, and accommodations you
will need in order to meet specific objectives. A UDL lesson plan may take 4-5
days to complete depending on the complexity of the activities. The plan
includes areas such as unit and lesson goals, guided and independent practice,
formative and summative assessment, as well as materials used and accommodations
needed. The anticipatory set allows the opportunity for students to make
connections between prior knowledge and new information. UDL lesson planning is
a wonderful way to provide teachers with the framework to meet every student’s
diverse learning needs. </span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">During EDLD 5364 this week, I had the opportunity to try out
a website called Cast UDL Book Builder. This website allows users to sign up
for an account and create simple e-books. Not only can you build and publish
these books, the program also allows you to share your finished product with
others via email. The builder itself was fairly easy to use. You could simply
add images, modify text, and upload sound into your book. However, I thought it
would be easier to click directly into the text box to add text instead of
having to click an extra link out to the side of the box. This was the only
miniscule problem I had while using the program. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Using these e-books is a great way to entice
readers and aide students with special needs. The website also provides a list
of UDL guidelines that any user can refer to as they create books that will fit
every learner and every learning style. </span></div>

<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Multiple
studies of the effects of immediate feedback have been conducted by everyone
from E.L. Thorndike in 1911, Sidney Pressey in the early 1920’s, and Skinner’s “teaching
machine” approach in the 1960’s; but despite the efforts of these men, their
studies proved inconsistent. According to Skinner, reinforcement can be considered
to be a type of feedback that informs the learner about the adequacy of their responses
and also increased the probability that the behavior will occur in the future (Samuels
& Wu, 2006). <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">In
my opinion, providing students with immediate feedback on their work is crucial
to their success in and out of the classroom. Immediate feedback goes
hand-in-hand with providing students with the opportunity to take an active
role in their own learning. Three recommendations for general classroom
practices for providing feedback are to use criterion-referenced feedback,
focus on specific types of knowledge, and use student-led feedback (Pitler,
Hubbell, Kuhn, & Malenoski, 2007). <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">The
use of technology in the classroom has made giving feedback even more
accessible. Incorporating polls, student response systems such as SMART Response,
grading software, and electronic rubrics can not only provide timely
disaggregated data to the teacher, but can be a great motivator for students. <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ascii-font-family: Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-hansi-font-family: Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin;">Beginning with the end in mind is a
concept that is definitely not foreign to me. I have always operated in a backward
sort of way and it seemed to work for me and for my students. Only recently
have I discovered that it is actually a system, an idea that author Stephen R. Covey
has turned into a profiting business venture. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>“Begin
with the End in Mind means to begin each day, task, or project with a clear
vision of your desired direction and destination, and then continue by flexing
your proactive muscles to make things happen” (Covey, 2004). Planning is a
never-ending task that we do as teachers. It seems that so much time goes in to
each lesson and then in a blink of an eye (or the duration of one period), it
is over. Sometimes it reminds me of anticipating the arrival of Christmas
morning. All of that work, and then it’s over in an instant. However, it’s the
planning that makes it go off without a hitch. </span><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ascii-font-family: Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-hansi-font-family: Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin;">Establishing a direction for learning
is perhaps the most important decision within the planning process. This should
also include a way for students to become responsible for their own learning
and instill some sort of way to realize short and long term goals. This helps
motivate students and creates a sense of accomplishment when those goals are
reached. Technology can also play a role in setting these goals. “Technology
enhances the goal-setting process by providing organizational and communication
tools that make it easier to clarify the learning objectives” (Pitler, Hubbell,
Kuhn & Malenoski, 2007).<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Teachers
can use word processing applications, brainstorming software such as
Kidspiration, data collection tools such as Poll Everywhere, and other web resources.
Providing students with these tools that encourage responsible learning and
self-reflection </span><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;">extend</span><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ascii-font-family: Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-hansi-font-family: Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin;"> far

introduce teachers to something new. Students are always willing to jump right
in and learn anything technology related, but I have many reluctant teachers.
This is where I notice this gap widening. Preparing students for this
ever-changing world consists of more than providing them with technology; it
comes from being a role model for embracing these changes rather than shying
away from anything new. In this sense, attitude is everything. We need to teach
our students that change is not always a bad thing, and is something that no
matter the circumstances, will be inevitable. I agree with this quote I came
across concerning this very topic: “We ask our students to be good observers,
consider the world carefully and to analyze the implications of what they see.
As educators, it’s time we do the same” (Romano, 2011). Jump on the wagon, or
get left in the dust. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 5pt;">
During EDLD 5366, our group
developed a website that focused on providing teachers, parents and students
with information regarding the inclusion of instructional technology into every
classroom. While building this website, we learned to work together to create a
visually appealing blueprint that included the key elements of design described
by Robin Williams such as proximity, alignment, repetition, and contrast. This
multi-page website included topics such as an overview of the site, a page for
parents, how-to demonstrations, special education information, and even a
section on digital ethics and citizenship. Not only did I learn how to build
the website itself, I also realized the importance of providing this information
to teachers and parents. It is important to be an advocate of technology
education and not only preach its effectiveness, but demonstrate ways to
include it in everyday learning with free resources so that every student is
able to take advantage of these 21st century skills. </div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 5pt;">
To make sure that I was
receiving the most benefit from this assignment, I exercised self-reflection
strategies to review my own learning. I would often reflect on what my responsibilities
were as a group member and also as a learner. Dr. Jackie Gerstein’s words
resonated with me. She explained that “without reflection, learning becomes
only an activity . . . which was never meant to have meaning, only occupy time”
(Gerstein, 2011). This is especially important and exhibits the dedication I
have to my own education and educating others through my position in my
district. I often take the things I have learned in this program and share them
with my colleagues. As a technology specialist, I am expected to train teachers
on these new developments in instructional technology so that they may provide
unique and beneficial learning opportunities to their own students. Part of my
self-reflection practices includes planning for future trainings and deciding
what teachers or students will benefit most from a particular assignment or
program. </div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 5pt;">
For this particular assignment,
I plan to help the digital graphics teacher on our campus design a lesson plan
to incorporate many of the activities that I completed. This is her first year
to teach this course and just recently learned of its addition to her schedule.
She was very overwhelmed to learn that she was teaching it and a high stress
level quickly followed. After providing some insight from my experience in EDLD
5366, we came up with a great outline of activities for her syllabus. The final
project will be designing a website that will include all of the students’
digital graphics projects as an e-portfolio to showcase all of their hard work
throughout the year. I am looking forward to learning more about web design and
sharing all of my experiences with my colleagues and their students. </div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 5pt;">
To sum up this entire experience,
I recently came across a blog post that explained that being a life-long
learner “means accepting that what you don’t know far outweighs what you do
know . . .” (Betcher, 2007). And my friends, <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>do we ever have a lot to learn! </div>

</div>
<span style="color: black;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="background-color: white; color: purple; font-family: inherit;">After Elizabeth Blackwell’s cousin/husband’s financial woes lead him to debtors’ prison, she took it upon herself to provide for her family and erase her husband’s debts by undertaking the arduous task of creating “<i>A Curious Herbal</i>”, published from 1737-1739. This resourceful woman who had some background knowledge of medicinal herbs and plants, created a go-to herbal with botanical illustrations which included new plant species form the Americas. Along with drawing, engraving, and coloring the illustrations herself, she also included a description of the plants, their common names, scientific names, and their medicinal properties. She would eventually catalog 500 species, free her husband from debtors’ prison (even though he was later executed for political conspiracy), and provided for her family in a time of desperation. She may not be the most recognizable Elizabeth Blackwell (the first woman to receive a medical degree in the U.S.), she proved to be a pioneer and gave new meaning to the endearment “devoted wife”. </span></div>
<span style="background-color: white; color: purple; font-family: inherit;"></span><br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="background-color: white; color: purple; font-family: inherit;">Concerning the four basic principles of graphic design, described by Robin Williams (no, not that one) in “The Non-Designer’s Design Book”, “A Curious Herbal” by Elizabeth Blackwell encompasses many qualities that prove functional and aesthetically pleasing. Though her work doesn’t provide much contrast and there is a lot of blank space on every page, its simplicity is what made this collection so popular. It was easy to find and identify the plants because her illustrations were not crowded or overbearing. The text was aligned in the same way on every page, divided by crisp clear lines and equal amounts of space and “type”. The proximity of the information presented was adequate, but predictable. The consistency and repetition is what made this collection functional and popular for centuries. Her keys and descriptions were easy to identify and provided the reader with the information necessary to make a quick decision in what was often a life or death situation. </span></div>

I appreciated the fact that we were allowed to view the conferences at a later date because I often find it difficult to fit the conferences into my schedule. I love to take online classes because of the flexibility and the ease of watching the conferences at a later date really helped me get the most out of this course. I did need clarification as to what we were supposed to submit when there wasn’t an assigned section on the document. It was reassuring to see that I was not the only one confused!
Web conferences are great for getting to know your fellow students, asking questions to clarify confusing topics, checking to make sure you are staying on track, and sometimes they are even good for a laugh or two! One thing that I find very frustrating is that some students tend to repeat questions that have already been answered and it seems as if they are not paying attention to what is being discussed. It ends up taking way too much time to answer questions and often it feels as if we do not get much accomplished because of this inconvenience.
I value input from my fellow students and realize the importance of attending or viewing web conferences. Until next time!Tanyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16477434086078918050noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-915466865474955714.post-77805686523934004402012-06-17T11:13:00.000-07:002012-06-17T12:01:51.770-07:00Podcast: Intro to Windows Movie Maker 2.6Here is a short podcast introducing windows Movie Maker 2 . 6. <div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 5pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 11pt;">It’s week two of 5301 and the black cloud
looming over my head (a.k.a. Action Research Project) is beginning to turn a
light shade of grey. Now, that’s not to say it isn’t ready to burst at any
second, but I have a good feeling that it will remain intact, but applying just
the right amount of pressure. All exaggeration aside, I have digested a
considerable amount of information over the development and beginning stages of
action research. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 5pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 11pt;">Watching Dr. Kirk Lewis’s interview made the
most impact on my understanding of action research. He conveyed the importance
of conducting action research on a topic of true interest and how that will
ultimately provide a more focused outcome and will prove to be most beneficial
to students. I really learned a lot about his tactics and his views on the
importance of action research. His strategy of evaluating data and research
from various districts or campuses and learning from the ways they have addressed
problem areas is a great way to begin assessing your school’s areas of
difficulty. Just as Dr. Arterbury and Dr. Jenkins expressed in their interview,
knowing what is practical for your students or teachers and being invested in your
action research project will ensure a more focused outcome and a project that
is beneficial for advancing student achievement. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 5pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 11pt;">After considering many topics with my site
mentor including using iPads in the classrooms, evaluating discipline
procedures, and improving student-teacher-parent communication, we decided to
focus on evaluating the effectiveness of professional development and teacher
training. I struggled with finding an action research project that I would have
the opportunity to really spend the amount of time necessary to research and comprehensively
evaluate. Unfortunately, I am not teaching at a school this year because we
moved at the beginning of the school year for my husband's job. After seeing
the limited opportunities for teaching positions in my certification area, I
have begun exploring other options. I thought that focusing more on
technology-centered training, which is something I thoroughly enjoy and currently
do part-time, I would have a better chance of really utilizing my research in
the event that I cannot secure a teaching position next year. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt; tab-stops: 0in;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 11pt;"><br />
<span style="mso-tab-count: 1;"> </span>I plan to attend many
trainings and faculty/teaming meetings in order to observe the overall
structure vs. effectiveness of the meetings. I plan to research recent findings
and other literature to determine how to present material in the best and most
beneficial way possible. To teachers, time is everything. It is scarce and
precious. In an interview for the New York Times, Barbara Stein, senior policy
analyst for education technology issues for the National Education Association,
said "The greatest indicator of technology improving student achievement depends
on the degree to which the teachers can use it" (“More technology
training,” 2000). I completely agree. I plan to prove that cooperative, ongoing
training focused on implementation in the classroom is the best approach for
teachers to utilize technology and relay these learning experiences to make certain
their students are receiving the highest-quality education possible. <br />

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">I have always been one to keep a journal. The fascination
with recording my own thoughts began in middle school. It was actually spurred
by a beloved English teacher who I admired greatly. She required us to journal
for the first ten minutes of every class period. I must have filled a dozen
journals that year. Granted, these weren’t profound or intellectual and usually
revolved around middle school drama such as the day a girl bought the exact
same sweater that I had, they still hold a record of my life, no matter how
trivial the words on the page may be. I still love to know that they are tucked
away in the back of a closet with the rest of my sporadic journaling. As an
adult, I appreciate that my teacher made me write and reflect on my own
thoughts. I believe that journaling is a great way to understand your values, your
concerns, and your goals. </span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">The 21<span style="font-size: x-small;">st</span> century version of journaling, or
blogging, is a fantastic for educational leaders to collaborate with one another
and discuss current educational issues and action research. As administrators reflect
on their own professional goals and experiences, they discover ways to
challenge their own thinking and develop interesting and engaging ideas that
provide springboards of thought for other educators. Being able to share ideas
with other administrators or teachers on a global level is incomparable. Using blogs
to connect with people in a personal way can promote a valuable line of
communication and interaction between the administrator, teachers, parents, students,
and surrounding communities. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Blogs are a
great tool to promote learning and collaboration. </span></div>Tanyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16477434086078918050noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-915466865474955714.post-41734390312219095652012-03-02T16:21:00.000-08:002012-03-02T16:21:39.867-08:00Utilizing Action ResearchIn order for administrators to fully understand their faculty members and students’ needs, they must evaluate the need for change and improvement. By conducting administrative inquiry or action research, administrators can raise questions and generate knowledge in order to improve both the education and training of their staff and the continued success of their students. Action research allows the administrator to become the “head learner” of their school through continued professional development and routine inquiry so that they may pass that same knowledge onto their teachers. By posing questions, collecting data, analyzing the data, and making necessary changes based on the findings, administrators provide effective problem-solving skills and provide the basis for school improvement. This can lead to better choices by administration based on teacher-centered and learner-centered research results.
<br />
<br />
Conducting action research is beneficial because it not only shows teachers that their administrators are actively seeking effective and productive solutions to current problems, they are also including the teachers themselves in the process. Action research conducted by administrators can evaluate and remedy problems that exist in almost every school or district. Such problem areas include integration of technology, scheduling, discipline, faculty collaboration, standardized testing and evaluation, and professional development training. Whether we participate in ongoing education by enrolling in university coursework, attending administrative team meetings, utilizing leadership teams within a school, or building professional learning communities, principals understand that collaboration is vital to the success of action based research and demonstrate the need for professional development.
<br />
<br />
Administrative inquiry allows staff and administration to collaborate freely and gives the “practitioners” a role in implementing change that will ultimately result in school improvement. As administrators develop the mindset that action research should be a constant practice, they open themselves up to so many opportunities that will enhance their leadership skills and effectiveness with implementing changes and producing positive results.Tanyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16477434086078918050noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-915466865474955714.post-87876001360775565222012-02-20T20:30:00.000-08:002012-03-02T16:22:57.883-08:00EDLD 5306- Course ReflectionsBefore beginning this course I was worried about what type of job I could acquire with this particular Educational Technology Leadership degree. I was worried about having the time to commit to a 150 hour internship. To say the least, I was worried that I had bitten off more than I could chew. Then, after several personality assessments in the first week of the course, I realized that’s just what I do; I worry. And that’s fine with me. Worrying can be beneficial. It pushes me to persevere, to overcome, and to have a constant reminder that I am strong enough to get through anything! I envisioned that by the end of this course I would gain knowledge of ways to improve instruction by integrating technology. I imagined I would learn about state technology standards and appropriate assessment of those standards. In the end, I was knowledgeable in all of the previous and more. I gained knowledge in examining and supporting the campus technology infrastructure, modeling the use of Web 2.0 tools, and even made some friends along the way.
<br />
<br />
While discovering new technology tools and brushing up on some familiar ones, I have actively implemented these innovations into my current job to a great extent. I am no longer in a public school, but through my teachings with the Dell Powering the Possible Launch Pad program, the incorporation of these tools has been very beneficial to my students and colleagues. I have shared my knowledge with others and will continue to educate others on the importance of technology integration. The Web 2.0 tools, legal and ethical issues, learning strategies, and e-communication are all relevant topics that I use every day in the workplace. I read the RSS feeds for educational leadership and technology that we subscribed to in week three and added more that were more applicable to my current occupation. The copyright and security issues that were discussed in week four were presented at just the right time. A few days after I completed the week four assignment, there were some issues with copyright policy that arose at my workplace. My supervisor asked me to plan and conduct training on legal and ethical use of materials for my co-workers. I look forward to sharing my knowledge and helping others define the grey area that sometimes exists when people investigate copyright policies.
<br />
<br />
Even though I have been immersed in the conceptual framework of instructional technology, I still feel there is one vital outcome that I don’t believe I experienced to its full potential. I had a very hard time securing a site mentor. Looking back, I know that I worked diligently to procure a mentor who would benefit my learning and leadership experience. I thought that after I had found a mentor during week two, I would have plenty of time to get to know my mentor and really sit down and plan activities to improve my inadequacy of leadership experience. Life’s constant reminder that not everything goes as planned derailed my ideal mentor experience and left me at square one during the last week of class. As I frantically contacted every school I could think of and searched for a new mentor in an unfamiliar area with a fast-approaching deadline looming overhead, I worried that all my hard work was for naught. Finally, I read what seemed to be a sanity-saving email from a wonderful mentor. It was bumpy for a while, but it seems that everything has turned out better than I hoped.
In the beginning, the workload seemed daunting. There was a lot to do in a short amount of time. I believe that the key to success in this class, and others, is to spend a lot of time on the assignments and never wait until the last minute. I knew coming into this program that I would spend more time with my computer than say, pots and pans, tempting new books on my kindle, or my beloved reality TV. I have always been a fan of online learning and completed many online courses as an undergraduate. I was not at all surprised by the assignments and I was prepared to work ahead and spend a lot of time at home behind my desk. I believe that I was successful in every assignment. Even though there were a few snags in my plan, I didn’t let them affect the quality of my assignments. I know that some classes will take even more study time, but I believe in the result.

This course taught me so much more than just standards and concepts. I learned to evaluate what I was doing in my career and what I hoped to accomplish in the near and distant future. I am conscious of how I can improve learning and training by integrating technology. I have faced challenges in my work and within myself. For the most part, I like to complete tasks on my own. I usually detest a group project where I have to depend on strangers to complete tasks that influence my performance. I can’t say that I am anywhere near over this just yet. It is on my list of interpersonal skills to improve through my internship experience! I enjoy working with people and I thrive when I am challenged to assist others, I just don’t enjoy putting my hard-earned grades in their hands. I have chosen many activities that will challenge me and provide more leadership roles and I look forward to pushing myself to add an entire page of impressive skills and accomplishments to my professional vita.Tanyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16477434086078918050noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-915466865474955714.post-78643040169794016572012-02-16T22:00:00.000-08:002012-02-20T19:58:41.161-08:00Web Conference #4 (Week5)Web conference number four, the final conference for EDLD 5306, was short but to the point. (Just as we like them in Cohort 26!) We discussed more details about the internship including ideas for activities which I found to be very helpful. I was a little confused about how to accumulate 150 hours of internship activities, but after talking with Mrs. Borel, I feel a great deal of confidence that I will be able to meet the requirements. Many students were asking questions about other students’, the instructor’s, and the IA’s access to their wikis. We briefly discussed the Summary Report and Validation that we will complete in order to fulfill the 150 course-based embedded internship hours. We will complete this by the end of our last class of the program. The following documents need to be uploaded to Tk20 to meet the requirements of EDLD 5306: Assignment 1 (Part 1), Application for Internship, Draft Internship Plan, Principal Competencies and Skills Chart. Mrs. Borel also included a class schedule for Cohort 26 as well as a last week to-do list. I guess all there is left to do now is order the books for the next class!Tanyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16477434086078918050noreply@blogger.com0
